Class Description

Ballet
is the foundation for all other dance styles and is absolutely vital to the serious dancers training whether their aspirations are classical or musical theatre. Careful study of Ballet technique gives dancers the strength, elegance and flexibility required in all dance genres.  In Baby Ballet students are introduced to the concepts of basic movements. Classes help build co-ordination, poise and balance in a fun and creative atmosphere where children gradually learn the discipline that is required in class. Junior classes use barre and centre work to build controlled use of turn out, correct placement and posture. Students improve technique whilst learning artistic breadth of movement. Classes also develop student's self-discipline, attention span and response to rhythm and musical patterns.
Intermediate classes become more complex with free work concentrating on body alignment, balance and increased stamina. Technique, strength, artistry and fluidity of movement are an important part of class with a focus on core stability.  Adult classes are designed to improve posture, placement, flexibility and strength.

Hip Hop/Street Dance
is a very up to date style of dance seen on pop videos and in the Commercial sector. It is fun, energetic and can encompass a variety of dance styles from Street Jazz, Lyrical Street through to Hip Hop and R&B. Due to the fact that Street Dance encompasses such a wide spectrum of styles it therefore has no curriculum, students wishing to pursue a Street Dance career in the Pop / Commercial sector will greatly benefit from additional classes in Jazz, Ballet and Contemporary.

Contemporary
has its origins from Ballet but developed as choreographers opposed the constraints of classical dance. It has a greater sense of freedom and uses on/off balance movements, momentum and abstraction in its choreography. Contemporary uses themes and ideas as a starting point for choreography; it is a very pioneering dance style always pushing the boundaries of dance. Although there is no curriculum, student's who wish to pursue a vocational career in Contemporary, Ballet, Musical Theatre or at University will need to have experience of this dance style for auditions to university and vocational dance training.

Jazz
This class offers you the opportunity to experience a unique style of jazz created by the inspirational dancer-teacher-choreographer Matt Mattox.  The class is structured around a series of exercises designed to challenge dancers to their full potential.  It starts with a warm-up that develops technique, strength and flexibility moving on to corner work with the focus on turns, jumps and leaps with the emphasis on coordination and plié leading to a routine.

Tots Jazz Street Fusion
introduces the younger dancer to modern Jazz and Street Dance moves developing an understanding of the different modern dance styles seen on MTV.  A fun funky fresh starter class for little ones interested in pop music that want to learn some real dance moves.

Adult Fitness
This is a fun class designed for adult beginners that introduces a combination of dance and fitness. An aerobic warm‐up introducing modern dance steps that leads to a fun and funky dance routine.

Zumba® Fitness
Zumba® Fitness is like no other workout you will ever experience! Zumba® Fitness was created in the mid-90s by Colombian native Alberto “Beto” Perez, a celebrity fitness trainer and choreographer for International pop superstars. Inspired by the traditional cumbia, salsa, samba and merengue music he grew up with, Beto paired his favourite pulsating Latin rhythms with the red-hot international dance steps his clients loved and Zumba® Fitness (Spanish slang for “to move fast and have fun”) was born! Since Beto brought Zumba® Fitness to the US in 1999, it has become one of the fastest-growing, dance-based fitness crazes in the country, with people of all ages falling in love with its infectious music, easy-to-follow dance moves, and body-beautifying benefits.
